Neptune Coed Softball Rules - 2026


We need to keep the fields clean / no trash. The town does not allow drinking at the fields. We cannot leave evidence of that.


If you forfeit on the day of the game, you owe both halves of the umpire fee that day. If you give notice the day before, you owe nothing.


If you have a player ejected, please recommend to them they leave the field peacefully and quickly.

New rule 2026. We are using a safety home plate or scoring line. All plays at the plate are force plays. There will be a commitment line in between 3B and home plate. If the runner crosses the commitment line they cannot turn around and return to 3B. (Automatic out.) If the baserunner does not run through the scoring line and they touch home plate, they are out.

New rule 2026. Teams will be scheduled for an equal number of home and away games to the extent it is possible. No coin toss.


Format is still 6&4. You may hit 7&4 with no penalty.  If you bat 12, it must be 7&5 format.

You can play with 3 girls. If you do so, the girl hitting #2 in the order also hits #8 as well.

If you play with 3 girls, a male must catch.

If your opponent is playing with 3 girls, you have the option of using a male to catch and using your 4th girl just as the AH.


You can start with 8 minimum. You must have 4 girls or you take an out in the girl spots. If you have 8 players but you have 4/4 you also take an out for the 9th spot in the order.


Teams will alternate guy/girl until they run out of girls. Then at the end of the order you can hit the remaining guys.


If guy walks in front of a girl, 2 bases. The girl has choice/option to walk with 2 outs only.


Courtesy runner. 1 per sex per inning. Last recorded out of that sex. You can not get stuck on the bases for an out. The original batter must return to the bases.


We are using a plate/mat strike zone. The arc is 5 to 10 feet. The umpire will call illegal or flat if the pitch is illegal or flat. The mat is an extension of the plate for any plays at home for both runner and catcher.



1-1 with a courtesy foul.


Outfielders must play at normal depth. There is a cone at the fields. May not start in front of the cone when a female is batting.


You may not throw a girl out from the outfield at first base for a force out. You may force a female at any other bag during a play. You may throw a man out from the outfield at first base.


Teams need to submit a roster form for insurance purposes as well as for roster purposes. Teams will not be permitted to bring outside tournament players in for playoffs, etc.


Playoff tiebreaker. If two teams only tied, head-to-head. After that, run differential plus/minus. After that, runs given up then runs scored.


One playoff bracket with the top 8 teams making playoffs. We do not reseed after each round. The Championship will be best 2 out of 3 games unless both teams request one game.
